The Unsound Long Weekend begins today with the third and final Morning Glory show. Resina will present a show rich with atmospheric sound, a reimagining of Polish music rooted in a feeling for indigenous nature and landscape. Entrance is free.
Today's talks include an artist talk with Severed Heads' Tom Ellard, and RA.Exchange with Gqom Oh!'s Nan Kole and DJ Lag, as well as a presentation on video art from by Lexachast's Harm van den Dorpel. Derek Walmsley from The Wire was supposed to chat with both NAAFI and Salviatek members, but due to flight delays, only NAAFI artists will make it. Also, the drumming workshop led by C1080, Uruguayan comparsa and experts on candombe rhythms had to be rescheduled to Friday, 1pm. Tickets will be available at the door.
The final film in the Dislocated Visions series is Negus by Italian duo Invernomuto, featuring Lee "Scratch" Perry and exploring the conflicting legacies of Ethiopia's last emperor Haile Selassie I. This film is not included in the pass and needs a separate ticket, available at Kino Pod Baranami’s box office. Screening starts at 3pm.
The first of two free events in a former cigarette factory on Dolnych Młynów street takes place today at 3pm as wel. This event is presented with the SHAPE platform and features two artists from its 2016 roster, Laura Luna and Peder Mannerfelt, as well as Polish clarinetist Wacław Zimpel who will join SHAPE in 2017.
Later in the evening, at 6.30pm, Matmos perform as part of Robert Ashley’s “Perfect Lives” – a TV opera set in the American Midwest “about” bank robbery, cocktail lounges, geriatric love, adolescent elopement and more. They perform with an ensemble, including string musicians from Sinfonietta Cracovia. A limited number of tickets should be available at the door, depending upon capacity.
Finally, the first of Unsound’s legendary Hotel Forum parties is on tonight, starting at 9pm. Room 1 will slowly move from sounds on the edge of club music to pummeling, heavy techno. Performing are DJ Morgiana, Anna Zaradny, Babyfather, Rabih Beaini in two collaborations with Tajik band Samo and Indonesian Senyawa, Ancient Methods and Cindytalk with the live premiere of In the Mouth of the Wolf, Orphx and Dtekk. Room 2 draws connections between juke and footwork scenes in Chicago, Poland and Japan, with Paide, Jakub Lemiszewski, Foodman, DJ Fulltono b2b with Traxman and DJ Earl featuring dancers Sirr Tmo and Dre. Tickets are available at the office and at the door, if not sold out.
