warhol series
Funded and commissioned by the Krakow and New York Goethe-Institut, Unsound’s Warhol series explores the possibilities of giving a fresh context to Warhol’s films via innovative music and VJ work. This series refers to Warhol’s own extensive use of pre-existing material to create something new, as well as the 60s multimedia event The Exploding Plastic Inevitable, which used Warhol’s film work as moving wallpaper projected onto a wall and musicians from The Velvet Underground.
The Warhol series made its debut at Krakow’s Unsound in October 2008. Groupshow and “Empire will also be presented at Club Transmediale in Berlin in Jan 2010.
The presentations at Unsound Festival New York mark only the second time the extended series has been shown and performed.
Included are the follwing shows:
Groupshow with "Empire" - an 8 hour marathon performance from Groupshow (Jan Jelinek, Hanno Leichtmann, Andrew Peckler)
Carl Craig with "Blowjob"
nsi. with "Blowjob"
As well as this, "Lillevan's Screen Tests" is a reconfigured version of Warhol's "Screen Tests". Influenced by Warhol's intentions, and updated through contemporary film-making techniques, Lillevan creates a series of screen tests and uses them as a bank of visuals during a club music event.
At Unsound Krakow in 2008, Lillevan presented the project with Jacek Sienkiewicz, Thomas Melchior and Bruno Pronsato. In New York 2010, Lillevan will present his screen tests on 12.02.2009, at Bunker in Public Assembly.
This series also involves a panel discussion and a workshop.
