SÓLARIS BY BEN FROST AND DANIEL BJARNASON IN COLLABORATION WITH SINFONIETTA CRACOVIA RELEASED THIS MONDAY 7th NOVEMBER

In 2010, Unsound commissioned SÓLARIS, which saw Ben Frost and Daniel Bjarnason work with Sinfonietta Cracovia to create music inspired by the novel of the same name by Krakow writer Stanislaw Lem, as well as Andrei Tarkowsky's film adaptation. The piece was accompanied by "film manipulations" by Brian Eno and Nick Robertson, and went on to be performed at Unsound Festival New York at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, as well as the Reykjavik Arts Festival in Iceland and Donau Festival in Austria.

A studio recording of SÓLARIS was made directly after Unsound 2010 at the Alvernia studios just outside Krakow. Further work was completed at Bedroom Community studios in Reykjavik. Produced by Valgeir Sigurðsson and Ben Frost, the results will be released by Bedroom Community on Monday 7th April on CD and in digital format, to be followed with a pressing on vinyl in early 2012.

Videos made during the recording session at Alvernia can be watched here.

The recording of SÓLARIS has been made possible with the support of  "I, CULTURE" - The International Cultural Programe of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, Co-ordinated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Poland. Assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
