Unsound 2018 ends today, but there’s still a busy day ahead of us!
Final Ephemera: Foris sessions run today at 1:30pm, 3pm and 4:30pm. It’s the last chance to immerse yourself in the synesthetic experience made by Chris Watson, Geza Schoen and MFO. Also today in the afternoon, the final Crack Magazine broadcast at Szpitalna 1 will feature Olivia and Slikback.
The afternoon ICE show is devoted to Zofia Rydet, a Polish photographer perhaps best known for taking more than 20,000 photographs between 1978 and 1990, documenting households in Poland - but her full body of work is even more expansive. In a show called Archive, Poland’s Paweł Romańczuk of Małe Instrumenty will compose music featuring Japanese musician Tomoko Sauvage, who has spent years investigating the sound and visual properties of water. The visual side of Archive will be created from Rydet’s photographs by Elektro Moon Vision in collaboration with Karol Hordziej. Tickets will be available at the door.
The evening show in Słowacki Theatre is a tribute to the late Jóhann Jóhannsson, one of the world’s foremost composers of film music. He won a Golden Globe and was twice nominated for an Academy Award. But Jóhann also maintained strong ties to the world of experimental music, through performance as well as collaborators. Such connections will be celebrated at a very special evening for fans, friends and collaborators of Jóhann, involving Hildur Guðnadóttir, Sam Slater, Erik K. Skodvin, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Sinfonietta Cracovia. This event is sold out. There will be no tickets at the door.
As usual, Unsound ends in style with a free closing party in an adapted railway warehouse at Kamienna 8. Rabit teams up with House of Kenzo’s LEDEF for a bout of dancefloor destruction - and who knows, maybe the rest of the House of Kenzo crew will make a surprise appearance? PAN’s Bill Kouligas pops in to celebrate his label’s 10th anniversary with a set, Japanese DJ and producer Powder will weave through genres and rarities guaranteeing dancefloor euphoria, while DEBONAIR will close the festival with an adventurous set, from Italo disco through new wave to EBM and techno. Unsound co-curator Rusałka opens.
And that’s it for 2018. Thank you so much for this year. Big thanks to all the artists, to the audience and to the entire Unsound crew and volunteers who made this happen. See you next year in Kraków!
