Today the Unsound discourse program continues with Paul Rekret exploring childhood anxiety, innocence and the capitalist crisis. James Hoff will explain his HOBO UFO project. Mat Dryhurst speaks about decentralised technology. There’s also a discussion about psychedelic culture in Central & Eastern Europe and a talk in the RA.Exchange series with Noncompliant. All these talks are free and open to everyone. For details and exact times, see the schedule. The NTS Sessions will also continue at Szpitalna 1 club.
This afternoon’s event takes place in the administration building at the Nowa Huta steel mill, built during the Stalinist period and perfectly preserved. The program sees Lee Gamble return to Unsound to celebrate the release of his new Hyperdub album Mnestic Pressure, for which he has designed a completely new live show based on purpose-built generative software and immersive light design. Lanark Artefax, a fellow artist on Gamble’s own label UIQ, will also perform, bringing the debut of a live A/V project. Tickets to this show are sold out.
The evening show in Nowa Huta’s Łaźnia Nowa features Einstürzende Neubauten, key pioneers of industrial music, whose revolutionary output in the 80s laid the blueprint for many of the genre’s acts. In the 37th year of their career they’ve embarked on a “greatest hits” tour that will highlight many creative peaks, exploring their unique combination of guitars and homemade instruments, as well as their frontman Blixa Bargeld’s magnetic voice and charisma. Opening is Australian-Icelandic artist Ben Frost with a new A/V show presented to coincide with the release of his new album The Centre Cannot Hold. Tickets to this show are sold out.
After the show, a number of complimentary buses will travel from Łaźnia to Hotel Forum. First one goes to Forum at 10.15pm from Struga stop. Then one at 10.30pm and final one at 10.45pm. There will be Unsound volunteers showing the way.
The second night at Hotel Forum features many premieres. Dominick Fernow will play live as Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement for the first time. Mumdance and Wife will debut their new project Bliss Signal, colliding grime and black metal. The Bug and Justin Broadrick’s Zonal will launch a collaboration with Moor Mother. Detroit legends DJ Bone and DJ Stingray are playing b2b for the first time ever. The whole lineup is too long to list in a short space, but you can expect a varied program, filled with many genres from techno through afro-house and UK bass to futuristic hip-hop and deconstructed club music. And remember there will also be a fourth room full of surprises called The Secret Lodge (aka 89). Tickets are available at the Unsound office and at the door until sold out.
