Kristen Gallerneaux presents: Echomaking

FREE ENTRY

Description

Writer, curator and artist Kristen Gallerneaux says: “Intermission has defined my art practice well before COVID-19 – whether coming to grips with a hearing disability that makes the world pause and drop out like a baked cassette tape every day, writing about the slurred time-locks of family seances, gathering residual echoes from a failed computer factory in the Sonoran Desert, or unleashing voices from the guts of once-silent technologies that I interpret as a museum curator.” Here she presents a performative lecture related to an essay in the Unsound Intermission book, moving through a network of interlocking stories related to the pandemic, chronic sleep disorder, and the suppression and disintegration of her indigenous Anishinaabe/Metis heritage.

This work and the essay were selected as part of the Unsound 2020 open call.
