David Daniell

Guitarist David Daniell works in various musical territories, from epic drone scapes to complex fingerpicking, but all his albums reveal a meticulous attention to detail that amply demonstrate his name should be far more widely known than it is. Boomkat called his “Coastal” a “masterpiece” and wrote that Daniell has “produced some of the most sublime and overlooked music of the last decade.” With a large body of solo work, Daniell is also a band leader with Rhys Chatham’s guitar ensembles. He has also collaborated with the likes of Thurston Moore, Loren Connors, Greg Davies, Jeph Jerman and Tim Barnes. His latest release is on Thrill Jockey, as a duo with Douglas McCombs, the bassist for Chicago’s Tortoise. Entitled “Sycamore”, it contains guitar lines woven into an abstract, multi-layered whole, with a wealth of detail.
