Pan American

Mark Nelson first became known as a part of Labradford, a legendary and influential ambient group for which he played guitar and sang. In the late 90s, Nelson created Pan American, a solo project to explore the possibilities of sampling and computer technology, as well as his interests in dub and techno. The self-titled Pan American album was released on Kranky in 1998. Since then, Pan American has constantly evolved, working with field recordings, ambient soundscapes, organic instruments as well as music that continues to be influence by dub and even house. He was worked with musicians such as Rob Mazurek from Chicago Underground Trio and Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker of Low. His rare live shows include electronics, guitar and percussion from Steven Hess. Pan American’s new album will be released in early 2009.
