Hauschka

Hauschka is the stage name for Volker Bertelmann, a composer and piano artist from Dusseldorf. The core of his music is the sound of a 'prepared piano', modified using means of 'creative distortion'. He places objects inside the piano such as gaffa tape, guitar strings, aluminium and felt rubber to change its sound. Hauschka is often compared to contemporary artists who find themselves between classical and electronica, such as Max Richter, Sylvain Chauveau, Goldmund, Library Tapes or Colleen. With many of them Bertelmann played successful tours. Haushka has released two albums with the UK label Fat Cat, and his latest, Ferndorf, is to be released in September 2008. It is his most mature work to date, involving string instruments. For Unsound, Hauschka will play with a string quartet.
