Ben Frost

Ben Frost I

Born in Australia and now living in Iceland, Ben Frost has been working for some years on ambient-drone guitar music, as well as with a band called School of Emotional Engineering. Although all Frost’s work during this period was well received critically, it is with his Theory of Machines that Frost shot to the world’s notice, finding himself in the same league as artists such as Fennesz and Tim Hecker. Released in 2007 by the Icelandic label Bedroom Community, this album has been called “the future of electronic music” by Boomkat, whilst Wire described it as “Arvo Pärt as arranged by Trent Reznor”. On BBC Radio One, Maryanna Hobbs said his music is "Arresting and exquiste... A truly elemental creative force.” Frost’s remarkable live shows involve electronics, tape recorders and often heavily distorted electric guitar and veer from ambient and drone to noise. Frost has collaborated with a variety of Icelandic artists, including Björk.
