Ilan Volkov

Ilan Volkov is an Israeli conductor whose conducting career started at nineteen. In 2003 he became youngest chief conductor appointed to a BBC orchestra at the time, taking the lead of BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In 2011 he became chief conductor and music director of Iceland Symphony Orchestra, finishing his tenure after four years. Volkov is also the founder and curator of Tectonics Festival, where contemporary classical meets improv and electronic music. The festival is now a global affair, taking places in cities such as Glasgow, Adelaide, Oslo, New York and Tel Aviv.
