The first of this year’s legendary Hotel Forum parties has Dean Blunt’s Babyfather at its heart, 21st-century protest music and a fitting soundtrack to Brexit. Abrasive forms of electronic music come from Ancient Methods & Cindytalk playing the world debut of In the Mouth of The Wolf, Canadian duo Orphx and Poland’s Anna Zaradny. KAFR sees Lebanese musician Rabih Beaini employ an 808 drum machine to play with Indonesian duo Senyawa, preceded by a short intro featuring Beaini collaborating with Tajik band Samo. Poznań’s DJ Morgiana experiments with turntables, vocals, a DIY theremin and other objects. Closing the night is Dtekk, DJ and and director of Białystok’s Up to Date’s Festival. Meanwhile, in Room 2 Unsound extends its historical relationship with footwork by exploring the genre’s long-lasting impact across the northern hemisphere including Japanese producer and radical deconstructor Foodman; Chicago’s Traxman playing b2b with Tokyo’s DJ Fultono; and DJ Earl with dancers Sirr Tmo and Dre. Poland is represented by Polish Juke’s Jakub Lemiszewski, specialising in stripped down drum tracks, as well as Paide, the most active local promoter of the genre.
