SHAPE Platform

SHAPE Platform

SHAPE is a platform for innovative music and audiovisual art from Europe, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme. It consists of 16 festivals and art centres active within the ICAS – International Cities of Advanced Sound network and aims to support, promote, and exchange innovative and aspiring musicians and interdisciplinary artists with an interest in sound. SHAPE also attempts to provide audiences and professionals with insightful lectures, talks, and workshops by experts in various fields related to sound and performance.

Each year, the 16 associations involved collectively choose forty-eight creatively strong artists and musicians to participate in a mix of live performances, residencies, workshops, and talks across festivals and special events. As 2020 was a year of rupture to the usual Unsound and SHAPE-supported activities, the festival took place online, but has also expanded into a book and record called Intermission as well as a series of collaborative projects, such as a radio show created with Warsaw’s Radio Kapitał or a XLR8R-hosted showcase. SHAPE-supported artists at this, unusual edition of Unsound 2020 included Fausto Mercier, VTSS, Poly Chain, Svetlana Maras, FOQL, Rojin Sharafi, Object Blue and Lawrence Lek.
