Unsound 2020: Intermission – Day 8

unsound day 8 pic

If we were all together in Krakow right now, this would be the start of the Unsound Long Weekend, four days of concerts, sweaty club nights, discussion and camaraderie. Never fear – we still have plenty of events coming up over the next few days, all presented online free of charge, and you can mingle with one another through the wonders of Unsound Discord (open invitation here).

For those yearning deeper contact, join us for a queer dance and movement workshop via Zoom at 5pm CEST called Touching the Strangers Within, led by choreographer Rafał Pierzyński and featuring a DJ set by Facheroia of Warsaw’s Kem collective. Register here.

Following at 6pm is a conversation on Mental Wellbeing in The Long Pandemic Standby, exploring the effects of the pandemic on mental wellbeing and featuring artist Uwe Schmidt (aka Atom™), writer and critic Agata Pyzik, members of Power Makes Us Sick collective, activist researcher pantxo ramas and a performance by the Academia della Follia troupe, a long running theatre company in the Trieste area involving people living with different psychological condition. This session is presented with Pirate Care, a transnational research project and a network of activists, scholars and practitioners. If you feel like, join the discussion on Zoom, here.

A double bill then starts at 8pm with writer, curator and artist Kristen Gallerneaux presenting a visual essay related to the pandemic, chronic sleep disorder, and the suppression and disintegration of her indigenous Anishinaabe/Metis heritage. Afterward, at 8.20pm, field recordist Chris Watson will take us on a walk into his backyard and nearby stark coastal castle ruins, to show us places he made field recordings during the initial pandemic lockdown, and the techniques he used. Transmitted via Unsound social media.

After these presentations, at 8.40pm Kristen and Chris will engage in an artist talk with music writer Dave Tompkins. How has their perception and understanding of their surroundings transformed due to the pandemic? What do they think the future holds?

A reminder that Discord Unsound Radio (join here) will again continue today, with a Surprise listening session before and after the official program. Previous sessions have included Unsound sets from Umfang, Lorenzo Senni, RP Boo and Alessandro Cortini.
