Unsound 2020: Intermission – Day 5

Unsound day five pic

After a fantastic long weekend, Day 5 of Unsound online is already upon us, with a collective listening piece, virtual tour and discussion – and the launch of an Unsound Radio channel on Discord.

The collective listening piece Community of Grieving, by Zosia Hołubowska and Julia Giertz, will be aired at 6pm CEST, a piece created to be listened to at home on headphones in solitude, to give listeners a sense of being connected. The piece will be broadcast on Radio Kapital (here). Afterward, Hołubowska and Giertz will head to Discord (link to invite) to chat with listeners.

Following at 7pm is an alternative virtual tour of Kazimierz, Krakow’s former Jewish district, exploring the district’s magnificent, tragic history, intersecting with a fascinating, problematic contemporary reality. Invisible Kazimierz is led by FestivALT co-directors Michael Rubenfeld and Adam Schorin. Participants should join by registering via Zoom (using this form), as the show won't be streamed on YouTube and it won't be archived.

At 9pm we will present the discussion Nature Is Healing? Our Relationship With The Non-Human Under COVID-19, exploring ways the Coronavirus crisis should force us to reexamine the human position within the non-human world. Writer Luke Turner leads this discussion with Jessica Lee, editor of The Willowherb Review – a literary journal dedicated to nature writing by writers of colour, artist and Lars Holdhus aka TCF – a Norwegian-born artist and musician who deals with language, codes, infrastrastructure and ecology, and J.T. Roane – who leads the Black Ecologies Initiative at Arizona State University. You can join this session through webinar (link), or on Unsound Facebook and Youtube. As always, we invite everyone to also discuss the subject on Unsound Discord (here).

Now for a surprise!

Unsound Radio will start tonight on our Discord server (invitation here), with temporary streams of some of our favorite sets from the past years of Unsound in Krakow, Toronto and New York. The timetable is a secret, as an online mini-revival of the "Surprise" theme. Come early at the end of each day’s official program, and stay late so we can relive these ephemeral moments together!
