Unsound 2020: Intermission – Day 9

unsound day 9 pic

Friday is here and with it an online Unsound program, including an online game, a durational sleep / meditation concert, a wild chat show with a very real vlogger, and a collaborative presentation with Nyege Nyege festival.

Kicking things off at 7pm CEST is a discussion on the future of festivals, and how they have been affected by the pandemic. Moderating is Lisa Blanning, while participants include representatives from Unsound (Krakow), Sónar (Barcelona), Pitchfork (Chicago), Novas Frequências (Rio), Nyege Nyege (Uganda) and Dweller (New York). Join the discussion on Zoom here.

After that, at 8:45pm, we’ll present a condensed collaboratively curated transmission with Nyege Nyege, a festival and label we’ve long been associated with. The program includes leading Polish percussionists Miłosz Pękala & Hubert Zemler playing reinterpretations of two tracks by Jlin; HHY & The Kampala Unit performing in Hotel Forum at Unsound 2019; and Ugandan ensemble Kalalu Traditional Troupe.

Between 10.30pm – 11.30pm CEST, we launch the highly anticipated online game engine created by Pussykrew and 700 Bliss (Moor Mother & DJ Haram). Called Significant Harmonies in Space, the virtual world can be entered via this link. If the game is full, you can also watch a runthrough on Twitch (here). Don’t be late – as the game will only be up for one hour! Significant Harmonies in Space is presented with the Polish Cultural Institute in New York, with partner Pioneer Works.

Afterwards, join very real vlogger Drumpilled at 11.30pm for another wild episode of WHAT REALLY HAPPENS AT THE PANELS AT A MUSIC FESTIVAL, streamed live from their studio outside a simulated Hotel Forum. This time Drumpilled will give a rundown on festival gossip so far, chat with Pussykrew, and once again there will also be a competition with the livestream audience on Discord! Open invitation to our channel is here.

To wind down from all this action, join us at midnight for a unique experience in the form of a 24-hour A/V stream for relaxation, deep listening, sleep, meditation and dream. ∞ o'clock begins with Quarantine Dreams by the Irish artist and filmmaker David OReilly. Following Quarantine Dreams is almost 6 hours of music called made by artists from around the world including Emily A. Sprague, Lucrecia Dalt, Félicia Atkinson, Bartosz Kruczyński aka Earth Trax, Forest Management and KMRU. Throughout, OReilly will perform animation. ∞ o'clock will run six hours in length, with the tracks placed in random order, and will be broadcast four times across a 24-hour period before disappearing forever.

Head to our website at 11.59pm to find the link to the ∞ o'clock stream. Whenever in the appropriate time zone, we suggest you take the stream to bed with you. Sweet dreams...

Unsound Discord now has almost 1000 members, where fans and artists have been hanging out the past week, chatting about shows, discussion panels, emojis, Polish food and more. Register here. At 6pm today on Discord (register here) we’ll present a second session of Zosia Hołubowska and Julia Giertz’s Unsound-commissioned Community of Grieving – during which the chat will be disabled. Afterward, standard service will resume, including Unsound Radio surprise sets. Expect the unexpected!
