Unsound 2020: Intermission – Day 10

unsound day 10 pic

And so, regretfully, we come to the second last day of the Unsound 2020 simulator. Passing through the online matrix today you’ll encounter the ongoing 24-hour stream of ∞ o’clock, enter the multiplayer game AFTERLIFE 網路來生: ev20f1 – where your digital self will be reincarnated, find out about audio virology and AI pop stars, and participate in a Zoom gqom dance class.

∞ o’clock is streaming now, a 24-hour stream involving music for deep listening and visuals to make you listen, sleep and dream, created by Irish director and artist David OReilly. Artists include Emily A. Sprague, Lucrecia Dalt, Félicia Atkinson, Bartosz Kruczyński aka Earth Trax, Forest Management and KMRU. The stream goes until midnight CEST, and you can find the lineup order here.

At 4pm CEST we’ll present a third dance workshop in the form of a Zoom session, this time focused on Gqom. The music for the workshop is created by Durban-based Rudeboyz and Griffit Vigo. Teaching participants the basics of gqom dance is London-based Esi.J. Sign up here.

At 5pm CEST it’s time for AFTERLIFE 網路來生: ev20f1, presented by NAXS Corp. and Meuko! Meuko!, an online MMO game, an experimental space, and a curatorial project. Inspired by reincarnation and the space-time structure from the Buddhist tradition, this virtual world reinvestigates the life, death and rebirth of our digital bodies. Artists performing include Taiwanese artists Meuko! Meuko!, Alex Zhang Hungtai, 張惠笙 / Alice Hui-Sheng Chang & Dutch E. Germ, 落差草原 / Prairie WWWW and 破地獄 / Scattered Purgatory. Expanding the universe of AFTERLIFE 網路來生, a second part of the program is a pan-Asian showcase of DJs and producers including Sonia Calico, Gabber Modus Operandi, 33EMYBW, Hyph11e, Leevisa, ASJ / Charlisha Leung, Mars89 and Wanton Witch. Go here to join the game or watch a live stream – the project lasts for 6.5 hours.

At 7.30pm, we’ll present the visual essay Audio Virology by Steve Goodman aka Kode9, based on his contribution to the Unsound’s Intermission book (pre-order it here). Following at 8pm is a live presentation of Lawrence Lek’s AIDOL 爱道, a computer-generated story of an AI songwriter. Afterward, Steve and Lawrence join Lisa Blanning for an artist talk.
