Unsound 2020: Intermission – Day 2

DAY 2 INTERMISSION

Today is the second day of Unsound 2020, and as throughout the festival we’ll be posting a daily roundup of events and links from Unsound’s schedule. Check in each morning for a daily dose of delights.

Before that, though, a reminder that last night’s amazing opening concert Weavings remains online today. Make sure to watch it here.

As for today, Machine Listening is a new collaborative project presented with Liquid Architecture, engaging artists, musicians, writers, activists and educators. Over three experimental Zoom webinar sessions, Machine Listening investigates the coming world of listening machines in all its dystopian and utopian dimensions.

Today’s session is called Against The Coming World of Listening Machines (diagnostic, critical, pathologies of the present, listening effects), and goes from 1–3pm CEST. This first session offers a diagnostic of the near future. What will it mean to live in a world of listening machines? Featuring: Lauren McCarthy, Yeshimabeit Milner (Data for Black Lives), Kate Crawford (AI Now), Stefan Maier, Hito Steyerl, André Dao, Jennifer Walshe and Tom Smith.

You can still register for the webinar here, or you can watch it as a stream on YouTube, or on the Unsound website. After the sessions, we encourage participants and audience members to keep chatting on the #machine-listening channel on the Unsound Discord. (Register with this invite)

At 7pm tonight we will host a discussion called Another Angle – Imagining Future Forms of Music Media. Attendees can join the webinar here or they can just watch the YouTube stream (here). Presented with Resident Advisor and moderated by Maya-Róisín Slater, the discussion includes Crystal Mioner, Felipe Maia, Łukasz Warna-Wiesławski and Gamall Awad. Again, we encourage audience members and participants to chat on Unsound Discord afterward.

Finally, you can watch Lawrence Lek’s (陆明龙) film AIDOL 爱道 throughout Unsound on Vimeo from today onward (here). Lawrence will give a live presentation of AIDOL 爱道 on Saturday 10th October.
