Artist Talk: Alyona Alyona

In her songs, the Ukrainian rapper Alyona Alyona has always addressed social inequality, deeply rooted misogyny, freedom of choice and speech, and self-acceptance. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Alyona Alyona has been using her voice to help her Ukrainian audience strengthen a sense of identity and unity, encourage separation from the oppressive past, and lay a foundation for new values. In conversation with Mariana Berezovska from Borshch Magazine, she speaks about how the distress Ukrainians are experiencing has encouraged communities to act in solidarity and practice mutual support, and the potential and necessity for artists to unravel turmoil and help heal collective trauma.

This conversation will be held in Ukrainian, but it will be translated live into English
