Unsound New York Adds SOPHIE And Jlin to Program, Along With Artist Talks. Soft Power By Felicita and Śląsk Song & Dance Ensemble Moved to December 8th. Amnesia Scanner Cancellation.

The main night of Unsound New York takes place at Knockdown Center on November 23rd with a lineup featuring artists from 9 different countries.

Originally part of the bill, Soft Power features the frenetic, hyperreal music of PC Music affiliate Felicita, scoring a dance piece by the Śląsk Song & Dance Ensemble, a Polish folk group dancing back to the 1950s. Due to visa reasons, we have no choice but to move this show to December 8th, still taking place at Knockdown Center. Tickets will cost $10. Unfortunately, for personal reasons, Amnesia Scanner has been forced to cancel their Unsound NY show. We apologise for this change, outside of anyone’s control.

The very good news is that SOPHIE and JLIN have been added to the lineup - two of the most innovative and forward-thinking electronic musicians to appear in recent years. Sophie blurs and collides the experimental, pop and club music worlds, in her work as a producer, as well as in her own music - most recently on her acclaimed 2018 album The Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides. She will play a two-hour live set. Jlin originally emerged from the Chicago footwork scene, but has created a sound that is all her own involving complex rhythmic patterns, tension and lightness. She will also perform a live show, including a mix of classics from such revered albums as Black Origami as well as new work.

Two artist talks will take place at Knockdown Center on Saturday 23d, before the shows, starting at 6pm. The first is a conversation with the artists Jlin and Miss Red – who is performing with The Bug – moderated by Antònia Folguera, a curator at Barcelona’s Sónar+D – Sónar Festival's Creative Technologies Conference. This second talk is an exploration of the ways that traditional forms of Polish music and dance, often centuries old, are transformed and given life by meeting contemporary forms. Participating are members of the Polish cult band Księżyc, as well Felicita, who will give a presentation on the origins of the Soft Power project in which electronic music and traditional dance collide, and Krakow-based executive director of Unsound Gosia Plysa. ARTnews Deputy Editor and Unsound curatorial advisor Andy Battaglia moderates.

Regarding Księżyc, a reminder that the band plays on November 22nd at St. Peter’s Church in Chelsea. The show is free, but all RSVP tickets have now been reserved. You can turn up on the night – all unclaimed seats will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis after 8pm.

As for tickets to the Knockdown event, these are available via Eventbrite and Resident Advisor.

The Unsound New York website is now live at unsound.pl, including artist bios, schedules, ticket links and more. The Soft Power event on December 8th has now also been added to the website schedule.
