Marginal Consort

Formed from the ashes of East Bionic Symphonia, a group of improvisers who studied under Fluxus legend Takehisa Kosugi in Tokyo and released a single self-titled album in 1976, Marginal Consort materialized in 1997. Since then the group - made up of Kazuo Imai, Tomonao Koshikawa, Kei Shii, and Masami Tada - have played a single concert each year, performing uninterrupted for a minimum of three hours. They don't discuss the sessions beforehand, and refuse to make anything that could be considered music, instead choosing the emphasize the exploratory nature of their collaboration, swerving any high-minded narratives about improvised music in the process.
