Raphael Rogiński presents Žaltys feat. Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė

Based in Poland, German guitarist, composer and musicologist Raphael Rogiński is an expert improviser who draws from jazz and blues traditions, blending these forms with folk music from across the world. He roots much of his music in exploratory Jewish culture, performing with bands like Shofar and Cukunft, but is just as inspired by the vital experimental sounds of American outsiders like Harry Partch and Henry Cowell, even covering the early electronic music of Raymond Scott with his band Ectoplasma. At Unsound 2023 Rogiński will be appearing with Lithuanian Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė, one of the founder members of STROOM-signed ambient folk band Merope. Jurgelevičiūtė sings and plays the kanklės, a Baltic plucked string instrument that's similar to the zither, or the Finnish kantele, and she's collaborated with Senegalese kora master Solo Cissokho and Mali's Baba Sissoko.
