FUTURISM, DADA AND THE NOISE IN BETWEEN

Description

Luciano Chessa is an artist, musicologist and expert on Futurism and Luigi Russolo, author of 1913’s The Art of Noise. For New York's PERFORMA festival, Chessa reconstructed Russolo's Intonarumori, or noise-intoners, which this year he presented with an orchestra and new compositions at the Sanatorium of Sound Festival in Sokołowsko, Poland. For Unsound, Chessa will explore Futurism as well as Dadaism, looking at what connected and separated these movements. While Futurism is known for music, was poetry the only aspect of Dadaism that involved sound? Chessa will spend time exploring Russolo and the connection between noise and the occult.
