The 20th edition of Unsound takes over Kraków in less than two weeks, under the celebratory theme Bubbles. It’s time to release final artist names, additional events and the expansive free discourse program. Although Unsound passes are sold out, tickets to several individual events are still available. Note that the festival’s opening and closing parties as well as afternoon events take place in more intimate venues, and require an additional ticket on top of Unsound pass. The full schedule with ticket links can be found here.

Shygirl performs on Friday 14th October, following the release of her long-awaited debut album Nymph on 30th September – her sound vibrating between hip-hop, experimental club and neon-hued R&B. She has replaced Caroline Polachek, on a lineup including Marina Herlop with full band, and Perila with Pavel Milyakov aka Buttechno. Tickets available here.

The Saturday 15th club night includes leading South African amapiano producer Vigro Deep, eclectic UK DJ’s Batu and OK Williams, the brilliant and uncompromising Nkisi, and Hyperdub head Kode9 going b2b with Tim Reaper for the first time. The already strong presence of Ukrainian artists at Unsound is also further enriched with DJ sets from Facheroia and Diana Azzuz b2b Rina Priduvalova, while longtime Unsound friends Eltron and Charlie also go b2b.

Free events include a third Morning Glory session with Peruvian-born experimental musician Ale Hop, while the Ambient Brunch series returns to Puro Hotel with Perila and Martyna Basta, who both also play live elsewhere in the program.

Events requiring a ticket on top of the festival pass will go on sale tomorrow at 12 midday CEST via Going. These include the official opening party at 89 – once a club run by Unsound, a Lynchian zone with original 80s decor beneath Hotel Forum. Taking place on Wednesday October 12th, the lineup features friends old and new, including LCY b2b Lee Gamble, Tom Boogizm, Chino, shjva and Hermeneia. Tickets here.

The closing party on Sunday October 16th will take place inside what was once Kraków’s Central Post Office, a landmark building dating back to the 1930s. The lineup features Objekt b2b Monster, DJ Python, Manuka Honey and Bakblivv. Tickets here

Afternoon events will also take place inside the former post office. The Friday program includes Poland’s Ksawery Wójciński performing a solo double bass show, while Norway’s Naaljos Ljom employ synths and traditional instruments to perform traditional Norwegian microtonal dance music’. Tickets here. The program on Saturday includes Jacek Sienkiewicz presenting a show based on his new experimental electronic album Pristine, while PC-affiliate felicita brings a brand new live experience, fusing high energy performance with noise jams and sparkling dance-pop. Tickets here.

For some years now, longtime Unsound partners Nyege Nyege have been throwing secret afterparties at the festival. For the 20th edition they asked to make it official. From Sunday morning at 8am until mid afternoon, they’ll present a party with a surprise lineup to be announced once the fun starts. There will also be a small afterpay late on the first day of Unsound on 9th October, thrown by Kazimierz-based Piękny Pies, and including Y-DRA live, and DJ sets from Debit and Krakow locals, to be announced soon. These independently produced events also require tickets on top of the Unsound pass.

The free Unsound discourse program lasts for 6 days, with almost 40 sessions including presentations, discussions and workshops. We encourage you to check out the online schedule in depth here. With way too much to list in a single news item, the program includes sessions with artists, curators, researchers, writers and journalists exploring geopolitical bubbles, speculative bubbles, creative bubbles, social bubbles and more, as well as engaging in discussions on wider subjects. Remember to register ahead of time for workshops and reading groups, as places are limited.

That’s all for now. See you soon in Kraków, and in the meantime you can join the Unsound Discord – and explore or contribute to the expanding festival archive – or follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Telegram and Twitter
