The 20th edition of Unsound takes over Kraków in less than two months, from 9th - 16th October, around the celebratory theme of Bubbles. Individual tickets to events go on sale this Friday August 26th, along with three-day club passes covering late-night events on Thursday 13th, Friday 14th and Saturday 15th October. We’ll post a link to the Going ticketing website on the day, as well as to a festival schedule.

A final program announcement is coming mid September, including additional artists and events, opening and closing parties, and the wide-ranging daytime discourse program.

This announcement includes further commissioned and premiere works, with Denmark’s Sofie Birch and Poland’s Antonina Nowacka presenting Languoria, marking the release of the album by Unsound and Mondoj, with costume and set design by Ukraine’s Planeta and lighting by Jacqueline Sobiszewski. Australia’s Robin Fox will present Triptych, inspired by Stanisław Ostoja-Kotkowski, a Polish emigre artist in Australia who was an early adopter of laser technologies in A/V works. German musician pole returns to Unsound for the first time since 2015, to present the premiere of a new work with visual artist Rainer Kohlberger tied to his upcoming album on Mute called Tempus, while Kode9 also presents the premiere of an A/V work connected to his new album Escapology. Slikback will present VOID, with visuals from Weirdcore. Perila and Pavel Milyakov (aka Buttechno) will present a new collaboration involving electronics, guitar and vocals. A rare performance of Kali Malone’s Does Spring Hide Its Joy features cellist Lucy Railton and Sunn O)))’s Stephen O'Malley with visuals by Nika Milano. Polish artist FOQL will present a new show connected to her upcoming album Wehikuł. With an album on PAN in early October, HEITH will present a premiere featuring percussionist Jacopo Battaglia of ZU, Leonardo Rubboli and visual design studio Declino.

EXPAT is Mykki Blanco and Samuel Acevedo’s collaboration, with theatrical poetry from the Black Queer diaspora combining with the goth and heavy metal traditons of Latin America, while Coby Sey will present a new show with a full band, following the release of his debut album Conduit. Blazing live performances will come from NYC queer techno punk duo Deli Girls, Indonesia’s Raja Kirik, drawing on Java’s rich cultural traditions to create dark, euphoric music; and percussion duo CZN made up of Italian Valentina Magaletti and Portugal’s João Pais. Polish hip-hop outfits 1988 and TONFA will team up to present a set specially tailored for Unsound.

Excursions into experimental zones come from UK’s Space Afrika with a new A/V show featuring recent and upcoming music; Czechia’s Ursula Sereghy; Kraków composer Martyna Basta; Kraków percussionist Aleksander Wnuk; Ukrainian musician Heinali; Polish drummer and electronic musician Pimpon presenting a live show and a special bubble-themed deep listening session; Kraków producer Paszka; and Australia’s Lydian Dunbar – of the band Tralala Blip – who recently released a solo album on Room40.

Two premiere b2b sets include Poland’s VTSS b2b with Crystallmess from France, UK’s aya b2b with Canada’s CCL, while Bored Lord and Ariel Zetina meet for their first European b2b set. Our long-time collaborator Nyege Nyege is represented by young Tanzanian DJ Travella, pushing the envelope of singeli, and the European debut of Nigerian producer DJ Tobzy brings freebeat music, a TikTok-powered cut-’n-paste collage of samples from an array of dance genres. Mutant bass innovator Amazondotcom of the Subreal label plays a set, while Brazilian DJ and performer Slim Soledad will play a challenging and disrupting set. Previously announced Eris Drew will be joined by Dutch visual artist Jeisson Drenth for her rarely presented Live & Direct show.

Artists selected from the Unsound open call include the aforementioned Pimpon; duo dmstfctn with an interactive lecture-performance set in a 3D simulation of a supermarket; and Poland’s Kat Zavada and Martix Navrot with the performance Metaverse Consulting. Abbey Pusz and Jak Ritger will run a virtual artist residency inside Unsound Discord; it starts on September 9th and picks up on their previous work with Do Not Research and New Models to further the themes of devirtualization and community building in evolving media ecosystems – more info soon.

Remember, a final announcement is coming mid September, and in the meantime you can follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Telegram and Discord.
