With experimental music, songwriting and pop now merging in often thrilling ways, genre bubbles are increasingly less defined. Shygirl has always been freewheeling; she’s a pop star at heart, but her sound vibrates between hip-hop, experimental club and neon-hued r&b. Her Unsound performance will follow the release of her long-awaited debut album Nymph, featuring production from Bloodpop, Danny L. Harle, Mura Masa, Sega Bodega, Arca and others.
Catalan composer and vocalist Marina Herlop takes influence from science fiction, South Indian Carnatic music and baroque classical sounds to twist hazy songs into unexpected, forward-facing structures. Her album Pripyat, released this year on PAN, was widely acclaimed, and her live shows are unforgettable – at Unsound she plays with a band, including Catalan experimental folk duo Tarta Relena.
Opening is the premiere of a new collaboration between Pavel Milyakov – aka Buttechno – and Perila, blending electronics, guitar and vocals into mesmerising, shapeshifting forms.
