Unsound will return to New York City at the start of December to present two nights with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, continuing a decade-long relationship. These shows are presented with the Polish Cultural Institute New York, also a longtime partner.

On Thursday 1st December, a free show at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center includes the Unsound-initiated collaboration between Polish cellist and composer Resina and French sonic alchemist Aho Ssan. Their epic premiere show at Unsound Kraków 2022 was a festival highlight. Opening is Polish experimental vocalist Antonina Nowacka, recently featured on a collaborative album with Sofie Birch released by Unsound and Mondoj, with Pitchfork writing that her voice is like a ‘lone organism carving a languid path’.

On Friday 2nd December, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall will host the third iteration of Weavings, the group improvisation curated and conceived with Chilean artist Nicolás Jaar. Weavings began as an online Unsound performance during the pandemic, based on a visual score bringing together a collective of musicians from around the world weaving in and out of the piece. The result was turned into an acclaimed album, which you can listen to here. The second iteration of Weavings took place IRL at Unsound Kraków in 2021.

For the third live version of Weavings in New York, Jaar and Unsound will draw on a dozen players from experimental, jazz, electronic, improv and even dance scenes.

Artists include Nicolás Jaar – who will perform and mix the show; Italian percussionist Valentina Magaletti of Vanishing Twin; Catalonian singer-songwriter Marina Herlop; Norway-based South African saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane; New York experimental electronic musician and composer Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe; Polish experimental vocalist Antonina Nowacka; Brazilian drummer Cyro Baptista; New York tap dancer Dormeshia; Italian folk percussionist Luca Rossi; New York drummer Tlacael Esparza, creator of Sensory Percussion; Susie Ibarra, a Filipinx composer, percussionist, and sound artist; and Bint Mbareh, a Palestianian artist and sound researcher. Tickets to this show are on sale via Lincoln Center.

Unsound New York 2022 events at the David Rubenstein Atrium and Alice Tully Hall are presented by Lincoln Center with Polish Cultural Institute New York in partnership with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Pioneer Works, Trust For Mutual Understanding and Music Norway.
