Presentation: Ecstasy 2019 - Cheaper, Stronger, Riskier

Description

Where do MDMA and amphetamines come from, and what is their environmental impact? Investigative journalist Mike Power traces their path from lab to the dancefloor, via toxic dumping grounds used by Dutch gangsters, and will suggest legal reforms that could reduce these harms. Drawing on a decade’s research, Power will expose new industrialised methods of MDMA and amphetamine manufacture, the rising influence of China in the drugs trade, and discuss ways electronic music culture must adapt to survive an endless torrent of cheap, strong drugs. The answers are not just legal, but cultural – and demand honesty and unity.

The project is a part of Unsound Lab, financed by Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
