Heinali & Yasia present Гільдеґарда (Hildegard)
Ukrainian composer and sound artist Oleh Shpudeiko, known as Heinali, uses modular synthesis to reinterpret early music, blending modern technology with sacred traditions. His 2020 solo album Madrigals was shortlisted for the Shevchenko National Prize, and he has scored for games, films, and performances. In a special premiere, he collaborates with composer, flautist, and singer Yasia Saienko to revive the music of 12th-century mystic Hildegard von Bingen. Their project, Гільдеґарда, merges Ukrainian folk singing with modular synthesis, reflecting on wartime experiences through Hildegard's paradoxical writings.
Born in Lviv, Saienko trained as a flautist before exploring the voice as an instrument. She collaborates across genres, combining Ukrainian singing with jazz, electronic music, and improvisation, treating folk songs as living, evolving art.
Гільдеґарда is commissioned by Unsound, CTM Festival, Athens Epidaurus Festival / Subset, and GMEA - Centre National de Création Musicale Albi-Tarn.
