Ala Qandil

Ala Qandil is a Polish-Palestinian reporter and former PAP correspondent in Palestine/Israel. She is also a human rights activist.

In the summer of 2014, she documented the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip. After the war, she returned to Gaza multiple times with French photographer Anne Paq to collect and share the stories of Palestinians who were murdered – and those who survived – in the form of a multimedia web documentary titled Obliterated Families.

She is currently active in the Polish-Palestinian Justice Initiative “Kaktus,” which supports survivors of the genocide in Gaza in their efforts to evacuate, rebuild their lives in new countries, and – above all – fight for the recognition of their rights and for justice.

Qandil’s work has appeared in, among others, the Polish edition of Le Monde Diplomatique, Al Jazeera English, Polityka weekly, Wirtualna Polska, and Middle East Eye. She is the director of the Arte TV-produced film Gaza: Is This Life?
