Arkadiusz Półtorak

Cultural studies scholar, art critic and curator based in Kraków, Poland. Assistant Professor in the Department of Performativity Studies at the Jagiellonian University. President of the Polish Section of AICA, the International Association of Art Critics (2023-2026). Member of the Board of the Museum of Art in Łódź and the jury of the Jerzy Stajuda Award for Art Criticism (since 2024). Graduate of De Appel Curatorial Programme (2018). He has written extensively on the intersections of contemporary art and curating, political theory and cultural policy making. The publications he contributed to include Alter(ed) Bodies: Beyond Biopolitics (Göttingen: V&R Unipress / Brill 2025), Was sagt die Kunst? Gegenwartskunst und Wissenschaft im Dialog (Bielefeld: transcript Verlag 2022), Trouble with Value (Eindhoven: Onomatopee 2020) or Kinship in Solitude – Perspectives on Notions of Solidarity (Hamburg: adocs 2017). In 2020, he published the monograph on instituent practices in 21st century arts Konkretne abstrakcje (Warsaw: IBL PAN). Sonic experience and affect have always occupied a significant place in his curatorial practice, spanning collaborations with such artists as Tania Candiani, Cilia Erens, Caterina Gobbi or Jan Moszumański-Kotwica.
