Unsound Day 4: Friday 10 October

Unsound Day 4: Friday 10 October

After a late club night, you can have a bit of a sleep in on Friday. At noon you’re welcome in Puro Kazimierz for the Ambient Brunch. FOQL will play a set celebrating 10 years of Pointless Geometry, the label which she curates.

The last day of the discourse program at Pałac Krzysztofory starts at noon with musician and copyright expert Zachary Cooper examining copyright in the age of AI. We continue at 13:00 with Liz Pelly unpacking her book Mood Machine and examining how preserving music cultures requires not only understanding how corporations capture these activities, but also building alternative networks. At 14:15 French dj Simo Cell, Danish composer Puce Mary, Hong Kong producer gyrofield and Canadian composer Kara-Lis Coverdale discuss our genre agnostic times, moderated by Resident Advisor’s Gabriel Szatan.

We return to Kopernika 15 a bit later than usual, for an Afternoon Glory session. Scottish smallpipes player Brìghde Chaimbeul will present a magical show in the auditorium following her album Sunwise. Unfortunately this session is sold out, but Brìghde will also make an appearance at night. Afternoon Glory is not included in the Festival Pass or Long Weekend Pass. There may be last-minute standing tickets at the door, according to capacity – but no guarantees, and you will need to wait until everyone has entered.

At 15:30, back at Pałac Krzysztofory, Tahmina Rajabova, Tomasz Thun-Janowski and Vira Baldyniuk will discuss how culture can respond to rising nationalism while upholding values of solidarity and dignity. To close the discourse program, at 16:45 we welcome the legendary Jim O’Rourke for an artist talk moderated by Philip Sherburne, discussing his creative practice, collaborative interests, and many years spent living and working in Japan.

At 17:00, you can head to Todoro for the launch of the exclusive Web jewelry collection, designed by Gabriela Cygan.

At 18:30, the music program begins at Teatr Łaźnia Nowa. We start with Aleksandra Słyż and SIKSA’s Alex Freiheit, presenting their new collaboration GHSTING. Afterwards, The Providenza Ensemble, born from a commission with Warp, will premiere works created in the Corsican mountains with Kelman Duran, Lorraine James, and Puce Mary. These works will be performed together with Sinfonietta Cracovia, in a project supported by Shure and Carhartt WIP. Closing the event is American post-punk four-piece YHWH Nailgun, known for their explosive live shows and excellent debut album 45 Pounds. Tickets available online and at the door.

For our second clubnight, we return to Hotel Forum. There we present an Unsound commission, supported by the British Council, bringing together 2K88, Rainy Miller, Lauren Duffus and Bianca Scout, together on stage for the first time. After a performance at Unsound Osaka, RP Boo and Gary Gwadera will present the European premiere of their collaboration. And we have two premiere b2b’s of John Talabot and Kiernan Laveaux, as well as mad miran and Hermeneia.

We’re also happy to invite US trio Purelink, Djrum, Príncipe affiliate DJ Lycox, US DJ and producer Introspekt, Krakow’s own Paszka, Nexus –the duo of B4mba and Mooki6, Colombian producer Bclip and Brazilian producer Yvu. We’ll also present concerts in 89 aka The Secret Lodge with Joanne Robertson, Jerzy Mączyński, Jim O’Rourke and Eiko Ishibashi remixing the work of Włodzimierz Kotoński and a dj set by Rabih Beaini. And as promised, Brìghde Chaimbeul will make a return with an intervention in the main room.

Tickets sold out online for this event, check for info on our festival app and social media regarding tickets on the door, which we will sell sometime after midnight according to capacity.
