Unsound Day Three: Thursday 9 October

Unsound Day Three: Thursday 9 October

A big welcome to all Long Weekend Pass holders joining us from today! A reminder that the Festival Office at Pałac Krzysztofory is open from 12–6 pm — the place to exchange your pass for a wristband, have a coffee, or catch part of the daytime discourse program. To keep up with what’s on, download the Unsound app for iOS or Android, and check the Tickets section on our website for up-to-date info, including which shows are sold out.

Midway through the week, Unsound shifts into high gear. Thursday brings a full day of discussions, performances, and the first club night at the legendary Hotel Forum.

The day begins with the final Morning Glory concert in the beautiful surrounds of the 19th-century medical lectures hall – a free session featuring shinobue maestro Rai Tateishi with live processing by his goat (JP) bandmate Koshiro Hino. It’s free, but capacity is limited, so come early; doors open at 10:30.

From noon, Pałac Krzysztofory hosts a series of talks. Marta Rawłuszko moderates a discussion between historian Hannah Proctor and sociologist Akwugo Emejulu on burnout, activism, joy and daily survival. At 13:15, Kate Devlin, Aga Kozak and Ania Malinowska explore the futures of sex and intimacy in relation to AI and other forms of technology. At 14:30, Liam Inscoe-Jones, Kieran Press-Reynolds, Margeaux Labat and Julia Czub trace internet music culture from MP3s to TikTok, asking how journalism is adapting to new formats.

At 16:00, the legendary A Guy Called Gerald, creator of classics like Voodoo Ray and Black Secret Technology, sits down for a special onstage interview with a surprise moderator. Then at 17:00, Martina Raponi presents her new book Psofotopias. Noise: Sounding Out the Unheard.

The evening program moves to Kino Kijów for Where Does Fire End?, a new Unsound-commissioned collaboration between Japanese instrument builder FUJI|||||||||||TA and American experimentalist Ka Baird, followed by Concrète Waves, a powerful meeting of Actress and Suzanne Ciani. Doors open at 7:00 pm. This show is sold out.

The first epic night at Hotel Forum includes premiere b2b sets from Slikback & Brodinski and dBridge & gyrofield, live sets from Smerz, Nick León, NEW YORK, Robert Piotrowicz, Maria Bertel, ltfll, and Krenz & Karuzelkaaa, plus DJ sets by Bobby Beethoven (fka Total Freedom), Jacek Sienkiewicz, and k:i:o:s:k. Tickets are still available online.

Today Resident Advisor will also present a workshop on the art of using online tools to conduct research, build visibility and craft the dynamic short-form story formats favoured in today’s multimedia landscape. Free with registration.
