Unsound Day Two: Wednesday October 8

Welcome to day 2 of Unsound! A reminder that the festival office is at Pałac Krzysztofory, open from 12–6 pm — the place to exchange your pass for a wristband, have a coffee, or engage in the daytime discourse program. To follow what’s on, download the Unsound app on iOS or Android. In terms of what events are sold out, you can check the ticket section on our website, updated regularly.
We start the day again at Kopernika 15 for the second Morning Glory. French guitarist Nina Garcia will help you shake off sleep, presenting her new album Bye Bye Bird in the beautiful surroundings of the 19th-century medical auditorium. Entry is free, but capacity is limited, so best to come early. Doors open at 10:30.
At Pałac Krzysztofory, the discourse program starts at 12:00 with Antony Loewenstein, Ala Qandil and Nina Michnik discussing how Palestine is being used as a testing ground for weapons and surveillance technology. This talk is tied to the launch of the Polish translation of Antony’s book The Palestine Laboratory. At 13:30, sociologist Akwugo Emejulu will give a talk on Fugitive Feminism.
At 14:45, composer Jonathan Bepler will engage in conversation with Andy Battaglia from ARTNews, exploring his long-standing collaboration with Matthew Barney, unravelling the operatic film” River of Fundament. At 15:45 Liam Inscoe-Jones presents his recent book Songs in the Key of MP3, which looks into the first generation of digital native musicians. At 16:45 Kieran Press-Reynolds and Aleksandra Herzyk discuss whether the alt-right is still “alt”, in a discussion moderated by Kat Zavada.
The evening music program takes us to Teatr Łaźnia Nowa, where doors open at 18:00. Polish guitarist Artur Rumiński opens the night, followed by a trio performance by Abdullah Miniawy, bringing his album Peacock dreams أَحْلَامُ الطَّاوُوسِ supported by 2 horn players. Closing the event is Moin, the trio of Valentina Magaletti and Raime, who actually shared the stage for the first time at Unsound several years ago, though not under that name. Tickets available online and at the door.
The Opening Party takes us to a new venue: Sky7 Jubilat is positioned on the top floor of an iconic communist-era department store, with a terrace and sweeping view of Wawel Castle and the Wisła River. Opening the party is Warsaw-based dj Vicky Nasty. Curaçaoan DJj Rozaly is up next, presenting his unique selection influenced by local carnival riddims. Cry is the brand new collaboration between New York artists Relaxer (aka Daniel Martin-McCormick) and Kilbourne, delivering a hardware storm of punk-driven techno. Closing the party is Brazilian DJ Clementaum.
For those who have registered, there are also two workshops today. The first is Notes on Evil, with Steven Warwick (aka Heatsick), and the second is run by Ada Omylak of the Revolutionary Housewives Circle, a beginner-friendly workshop in embroidery.
See you around!
