Unsound Lab Summer School Returns for 2025 Edition in August

After a successful first edition in 2024, Unsound Lab Summer School returns this August with its second iteration—an intimate educational retreat exploring the experimental music ecosystem through workshops, discussions, and collective reflection. Last year’s debut was an exercise in sharing, warmth, and community building. Over four days in Sokołowsko, we listened, learned, wandered the hills, and stayed by the bonfire far too late each night.
This year, we’re heading back to the picturesque town of Sokołowsko to explore the challenges facing the music industry today, as well as reconnecting with the DIY spirit and collective ethos that continue to shape our work. The four-day program will again combine workshops, discussions, music sharing, and collective exercises. This year’s summer school will also be complemented by a dedicated Lab discourse program during Unsound Kraków in October.
Unsound Lab was created as a space for exchange—across disciplines, geographies, and generations. The program is aimed at practitioners and organisers operating in the realms of experimental sound, club culture, audiovisual art, and radical thinking. In particular, we invite those who wear various hats to apply – for example, artists who are also promoters who might run their own label. You don’t need to have an extensive CV, but you should have some hands-on experience in the world of music or culture, and be open to meeting your peers, sharing experiences and deepening your understanding of the music industry in all sorts of ways.
We’re assembling a new group of mentors for this year’s edition, while welcoming back some familiar faces from last year. The first confirmed names include: Omar McCutcheon (aka Batu, DJ, producer and founder of Timedance), Lyra Pramuk (singer, composer and producer), Bethany Andrzejak (one of the curators of Le Guess Who?), Lucy Bright (film music supervisor for Aftersun, Tár and others), Izabela Łopuch (film and TV producer responsible for an HBO hit “Blinded by Lights”), Edka Jarząb (sound artist), Kat Zavada (artist, curator and internet researcher), and Mat Schulz (Unsound founder and Artistic Director). The full program and complete list of mentors will be announced in June.
The Unsound Lab Summer School will take place from August 4–7, 2025, in Sokołowsko, Poland. The participation fee is 1500 PLN, with a limited number of concession places available. This fee covers all classes, accommodation, and three meals a day. A large number of slots will be reserved for participants based in Poland, but this will be an international gathering, so you can apply from anywhere. All sessions will be conducted in English.
Registration is now open and closes on June 13. The number of admissions is limited, so don’t hesitate and apply here. The project is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the Creative Industries Development programme, run by the Polish Creative Industries Development Center.
