Welcome to Unsound 2025 Day One: Tuesday October 7

After so long in planning, it’s time to enter the Unsound Krakow 2025 WEB, its threads stretching across the city for 5 days. Welcome one and all!
The Festival Office at Pałac Krzysztofory is open 7–10 October from 12–6 pm — this is where you’ll exchange your pass for a wristband. While you’re there, you can pick up a booklet with the full program, or download the Unsound app on iOS or Android to follow everything on the go. In terms of what events are sold out, you can check the ticket section on our website, updated daily. You can buy tickets via the app or website, or in the office.
The day begins gently at Kopernika 15 with the first Morning Glory, where Krakow pianist Martyna Zakrzewska teams up with Indonesia’s J. ‘Mo’ong’ Santoso Pribadi to premiere Transmutation Sound, performed on a handmade instrument built from an old accordion, hoses, tire and footpump. The show is free, but full is full, so be early to make sure you get a seat – doors open at 10.30am.
From there, the current flows through the festival office at Pałac Krzysztofory, where ideas take center stage from 12 midday onward: Jaya Klara Brekke unravels the network, Emile Frankel imagines “heaven banning,” and a panel led by Resident Advisor's Chloe Lula explores art as soft power, with participants Philip Sherburne, Pavel Niyakhayeu, Gosia Płysa and Rabih Beaini. Later, Pitchfork’s Jeremy D. Larson explores how our tastes are shaped online, before Abdullah Miniawy, Daniel Martin-McCormick and Aleksandra Słyż discuss the radical potential of collaboration and the return of bands, in a panel moderated by Philip Sherburne.
In the evening, we’ll meet at Kino Kijów, where Matthew Barney and Jonathan Bepler’s operatic film River of Fundament unfolds in three acts. For the first time ever, Bepler himself will perform layers and moments of the score live, joined by Adam Gołębiewski and Martyna Basta. The film runs for approximately 6 hours, including two 20-minute breaks. This show is sure to be unique, even by Unsound standards! Doors open at 7:00pm, and tickets are available online and at the door.
