Discussion: Fuchsias From The Patron's Garden

October 10, 2017 - October 10, 2017 | Pałac Krzysztofory

Since the ‘60s, brands have forged a complex relationship with counterculture. With record sales down to ten percent of what they were before illegal filesharing, public funding cuts, and Facebook and Google taking most of the advertising revenue that once went to publications, brands are filling the financial gap. What compromises are artists, festivals and publications willing to make to survive and reach more people? Can corporations push radical agendas? What commercially sponsored projects are thought-provoking? Do different generations have different perspectives on what it means to work with brands? Can audiences and consumers still create alternative models? Panelists include artists Leyland Kirby and Robin Fox, Unsound Executive Director Gosia Płysa and Theresa Baumgartner, Boiler Room producer and director. Moderated by Luke Turner.
