Jacaszek

Born in Gdansk in 1972, Jacaszek is one of Poland's best known artists working with electronic music, combining acoustic instruments with electronically prepared sounds. He gained an international reputation for the ambient / post-classical album "Treny," released on the Norwegian Miasmah label, run by Erik Skodvin of Deaf Center.

This was followed by “Pentral," an experiment in field recording, where Jacaszek chose three Gdansk cathedrals as sources for his samples.

His newest album is "Glimmer," which looks set to expand his reputation. To be released on Ghostly International, this work combines electronic elements with harpsichord, bass clarinet and metalphone. The compositions recall baroque chamber music, yet the sound also reveals a connection with the likes of Ben Frost, Collen and Tim Hecker.

Jacaszek's performance at Unsound will take place at the Krakow Philharmonic Hall, and marks the release of "Glimmer."

For UNSOUND, Jacazsek will be joined by Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Maia (p.ma) for the premier of their new collaboration.
p.ma will present a variation of his Super 8 Series: this live-cinema performance is the result of a process developed in the dark room using analogue means of light and celluloid manipulation. The analogue manipulation of the film is the starting point of a visual exploration resulting from the interplay of vibrant paintings and abstract patterns. This intervention aims to explore the limits of sensory repetition and abstraction, leading us through imperfections and unexpected results in a quest for beauty that you'd never foresee in film wastes.
