Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer

Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer have released one of the most remarkable works of this year: "Re:ECM."

This double-LP reworks the back catalogue of seminal German label ECM, creating new sound structures that bridge several worlds, including ECM’s space-conscious improvisation and composition with the world of electronics. Remote traces of dance music are woven throughout some pieces, but in ways you wouldn't expect.

Source materials on “Re: ECM” include recordings of Christian Wallumrød, Alexander Knaifel, Louis Sclavis, John Abercrombie, Bennie Maupin, Arvo Pärt, Wolfert Brederode, Paul Giger and more - looped, sampled, remixed and reworked in evocative new treatments. ECM founder Manfred Eicher subsequently supervised the mastering of “Re: ECM” in Munich, completing a unique sonic experience.

Certain to be a festival highlight, their performance of "Re:ECM" at Unsound will be the second ever, after the launch event at Berghain in Berlin. It will take place in the stunning surrounds of St Katherine's, a 15th century gothic church, and will also feature the live improvisation of pianist Christian Wallumrød.
