Based in Oakland, California, Xiu Xiu is an experimental band that draws heavily from apparently disparate genres including punk, noise rock, ambient rock and modern classical. The founding and only constant member is singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart, whose lyrics often deal with taboo subjects. Xiu Xiu’s most successful album has been their most accessible, Fabulous Muscles, but their prolific output has resulted in eight LP’s since 2002, as well as a host of collaborations. This has cemented their place as a highly original band with a large following, one that has managed to reach Indie music audiences around the world.
