Unsound is organising a European tour of "Solaris" starting this Wednesday 19th September, taking in three different cities: Berlin, Brussels and The Hague.
"Solaris" was commissioned by Unsound 2010, composed by Ben Frost and Daniel Bjarnason with Sinfonietta Cracovia - Krakow's Royal Orchestra. Film manipulations are by Brian Eno and Nick Robertson. The piece draws inspiration from both Kraków writer Stanislaw Lem’s novel "Solaris" as well as the film adaptation by Andrei Tarkovsky.
Apart from the composer/musicians, Sinfonietta Cracovia will be part of the tour.
Dates and details are as follows:
Wednesday 19 September - BERLIN - Volksbühne, Berlin - presented with CTM
Thursday 20 September - BRUSSELS - Bozar - presented with Malopolski Instytut Kultury as part of Malopolska Region Days and Bozar Electronic Arts Festival 2012
Friday 21 September - THE HAGUE - Lucent Danstheater - presented as the official opening of Today's Art Festival
There will be a livestream of the performance at Today's Art on Disquiet TV, a virtual "concert hall" which streams contemporary music concerts. This will be the only concert streamed from Today's Art, and you need to watch it live as it will not be archived.
This tour follows up on past "Solaris" performances at Unsound Krakow, Unsound Festival New York at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, The Reykjavik Arts Festival, Donau Festival in Austria and The Bela Bartok National Hall in Budapest.
"Music for Sólaris" is also released on CD and vinyl as an album by the Icelandic label Bedroom Community.
The shows in Berlin and The Hague are also presented with ECAS - European Cities of Advanced Sound, and supported by The Culture Programme of the European Commission.
