The world’s leading doom metal band Sunn O))) will perform at Krakow Unsound on Sunday 25.10.2009. This is the debut show of Sunn O))) in Poland, as part of their European “Monoliths & Dimensions” tour, promoting their latest and seventh album for Southern Lord Records. It is also the band’s only Polish date.
Originating in Seattle and named after the Sunn amplifier brand, core members of Sunn O))) are Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson. Their music incorporates elements of noise, dark ambient and black metal genres. 2009’s “Monoliths and Dimensions”, the band’s seventh studio album, has widened their audience, bringing in modern composition and jazz. It features guitar player Oren Ambarchi, vocalists Attila Csihar (Mayhem), Earth's Dylan Carlson, woodwinds, brass, strings, male and female choirs. The album has been critically acclaimed, from The New York Times to Pitchfork and Wire, who wrote of it “almost a perfect album… great art knows no boundaries.”
The philosophy behind a Sunn O))) live show is “maximum volume yields maximum results.” It is a highly physical and emotional experience, as well as musical. The precise formation of the band for the Sunn O))) concert at Unsound will soon be finalised and announced.
Eagle Twin will open the night, a two-piece band from Salt Lake City. They will also release their debut LP on Southern Lord Records this year, performing what they describe as “doom blues roots rock”.
