Unsound 2012 starts in less than a week, on Sunday October 14.
One of the main projects of the festival is TRINITY, a unique collaboration between Biosphere and Lustmord that explores The Manhattan Project and the detonation of the first nuclear device in the New Mexico desert, an event whose impact resonates to this day.
The TRINITY trailer features a tantalizing glimpse into the music of Biosphere and Lustmord, in which the distinctive sound of each artist can be heard, entwining with the other. Video assembled by Berlin-based video artists MFO features landscapes from New Mexico specially shot by Matthew Betlej as well as archival footage from the 1940s. You can watch the trailer here.
The first presentation of TRINITY took place at Unsound Festival New York, followed by Communikey Festival in Boulder, Colorado and MUTEK Festival 2012 in Montreal. The Unsound date on October 19th marks the European premiere of the project, on a bill with V/VM presents: PROPER KAPUT.
TRINITY is the latest in an ongoing series of projects specially commissioned for Unsound, which this year also includes Demdike Stare's CONCEALED, Andy Votel's KLEKSPLOITATION and INTERPLANETARY PROPHETS featuring Hieroglyphic Being and Ital.
Communikey Festival was a commissioning partner for "TRINITY", conceived as a project connected to the ECAS (European Cities of Advanced Sound) and ICAS (International Cities of Advanced Sound) networks.
Also, we could't help ourselves: the first-ever live show from WIFE has been added to the Saturday 20 October afternoon program. WIFE is the electronic music project of James Kelly, the sole permanent member and writer behind the Irish black metal band Altar of Plagues. He will release an EP on left_bank in November, followed by more material on Tri Angle Records next year. WIFE rounds out an already impressive bill featuring Bee Mask, Container and fellow Tri Angle artist Vessel. Check out his video here.
