VISUAL THRILLS AT UNSOUND 2010!

Unsound 2010 has more video and film artists included in the program than ever before – unsurprising considering how visuals intersect with the this year’s key phrase “HORROR - the pleasure of fear and unease."
There's a special focus on Norway and Iceland, and a great deal of especially commissioned work.
At the opening concerts on 17.10 in Kino Kijow, Macus Fjellström will provide eerie video to his music. Icelander Una Lorenzen has been commissioned to create new visuals for Sinfonietta Cracovia’s performance of Daniel Bjarnason’s “Bow to String”, while Norwegian Jade Boyd will deconstruct images from Hitchcock’s “Psycho” during a performance of music from the landmark film.
Afterward, at the Unsound opening party, Swedish analogue synth duo Roll the Dice will perform to the atmospheric visuals of Norwegian photographer / video artist Frode Fierdingstad.
Norwegians Stian Smestad & A.T.L.E are creating a special “visual experience” for the show by Italian prog rockers Goblin in the Engineering Museum on the 23.10. A passionate "Horragé" to Giallo aesthetics of horror, you can expect both new, processed, vintage and deconstructed thrills and frights.
Lustmord, the legendary sculptor of dark soundscapes, has created images especially for his second live show in 30 years. Alan Howarth will perform with Jade Boyd reworking the films of John Carpenter. Black to Comm will provide a soundtrack to the movie “Earth” by filmmaker Tzu Byen Ho.
Presented with the Norwegian Miasmah label, Elegi will perform an improvised set with Krakow soprano Jolanta Kowalska and cello player Marcin Laczynski to reanimate a remixed version of the Swedish silent classic Haxan, an early documentary on witchcraft. Polish duo Sza/Za will improvise live soundtracks for Polanski shorts, referencing the original Krzysztof Komeda music.
As for club nights, there will be visuals by Norwegians Birk and Jade Boyd, Berliner MFO and Polish duo Pussykrew.
Other artists incorporating visuals in their shows include Demdike Stare and Jigoku, both reworking horror movies, as well as the likes of Emeralds and Oneohtrix Point Never.
Also a timely reminder that Unsound features a program of midnight movie screenings called “Night of The Living Dirt”, containing horror exploitation flicks culled from the extensive VHS collection belonging to Jigoku – who are also the curators. More info is available on the website of Kino Pod Baranami, which hosts the series. It kicks off with a midnight movie marathon at midnight hour on October 16th, from which the rest of Unsound will flow forward.
See you soon at the festival!
