It’s the fifth and final day of Unsound 2021! What's on in Krakow? What's online?

It’s the fifth and final day of Unsound 2021 – but there’s still plenty to see, hear and do today.

The day begins at 12 midday CET with the latest Machine Listening Session, presented with Liquid Architecture. Unnatural Language Processing explores the history, politics and artistic potentials of automatic speech recognition. Along with talks, conversations and newly commissioned audio experiments, the session launches an 'instrument' for the filtering, processing and manipulation of speech. You can watch with an audience gathered in Hevre in Krakow, or tune in from around the world – head here for the Zoom session.

Following, at 3pm, is a collaborative meditation and writing session with AI featuring author K Allado-McDowell and the music of Lenk. You can join with an audience gathered in Hevre or from around the world. Participants are also invited to connect and contribute via the Unsound Discord channel. Following, at 4:30 p.m, listen to a discussion on art, artificial intelligence, and cooperation between people and machines.

Also at 4.3pm, we invite you to the basement of Alchemia club for a concert of the Polish experimental drummer Adam Gołębiewski. This intimate event is not included in the pass and requires the purchase of an additional ticket, which will be available at the gate.

At 5 pm in the House of Utopia in Nowa Huta, join a Holistic Queer Community Care Session presented by Ecology of Care. This includes taking a pause together through the medium of rest and guided meditation, led by Dom Chatterjee, the founder of the NYC QTPOC collective Rest For Resistance

At the end of the day, we’re concluding Unsound 2021 with two very special concerts. The first is Weavings, a durational improvisation conceived and curated with Nicolás Jaar. Artists in alphabetical order include Aho Ssan, Angel Bat Dawid, Antonina Nowacka, Khyam Allami, Oren Ambarchi, Pak Yan Lau, Pawel Szamburski, Raphael Roginski, Resina, Tomoko Sauvage and Valentina Magaletti. Nicolás Jaar performs and also mixes the performance.

The very final event is Piano Burning by Annea Lockwood, a piece from 1968 in which a performer lights up an upright piano beyond repair, then plays the instrument for as long as possible, until it is engulfed in flames. Now the piece will be presented in Kraków, as the festival’s closing event. Curated with Lawrence English/Room 40, Piano Burning at Unsound holds a special resonance this year acting as a meditation on the pandemic and its impacts on the very nature of live performance.
