Actress & Suzanne Ciani present Concrète Waves
With Darren Cunningham (aka Actress) on laptop and drum machines and Suzanne Ciani harnessing her trusty Buchla system, 'Concrète Waves' links two of the world's most innovative electronic musicians in a groundbreaking cross-generational live collaboration. Ciani's contribution to music is astonishing; not only did she present a different, more emotionally tapped-in way to compose and perform with modular synthesizers with albums like 'Seven Waves', but she applied her expertise to the commercial world too, designing the Coca-Cola hiss in the 1970s and providing the sounds for the Xenon pinball table. Cunningham meanwhile has defined his own distinct sound since emerging in the mid-'00s with off-kilter classics like 'No Tricks' and the 'Hazyville' album, most recently sailing into Drexciyan territory with last year's 'Statik'. Playing with the concept of "R&B Concrète", a tangle of eerie pop music and industrial field recordings, the artist will juxtapose these elements with Ciani's more naturalistic, aqueaous approach: 'Concrète Waves', get it?
