Bobby Beethoven (fka Total Freedom)

Formerly known as Total Freedom, Bobby Beethoven is unquestionably one of the world's most influential living DJs. Thanks to his tenure playing regularly at GHE20G0TH1K and heading up his Wildness party in Los Angeles, he helped steer the US queer underground into self-consciously chaotic, unpredictable and genre-agnostic territory, impacting the evolution of what became known as "deconstructed club" for years to come, but it goes far deeper than that. Ashland Mines is among a handful of DJs who play the CDJs like an instrument, creating unique, long-form compositions from fragments of whatever's on his USBs: thundering Brazilian funk, '90s R&B acapellas, police sirens, movie samples, death metal or soaring baroque strings. Call it cursed concrète, maybe?
