Brìghde Chaimbeul
Hailing from the Isle of Skye, a large island in the northwest of Scotland, Brìghde Chaimbeul (pronounced Bree-chu Campbell) is a native Gaelic speaker and master of the small pipes, compact bellows-blown bagpipes ideal for performing indoors, or for playing over extended periods of time. She fuses tradition with experimentation seamlessly on her esteemed run of solo albums; on this year's 'Sunwise', she matches renditions of Scottish folk standards with her own heady compositions, bringing in her regular collaborator Colin Stetson to assist on sax. And Chaimbeul has already racked up an impressive list of achievements, winning a slew of awards (including the BBC's Young Folk Award) and even appearing on Caroline Polachek's 'Blood & Butter'.
