Maria Bertel

A member of various ensembles including Fire! Orchestra, four-piece rock band Selvhenter, neo folk troupe Solhorn and the Vladislav Delay Quintet, Danish trombone player, composer and improviser Maria Bertel has made a career out of subverting expectations. As a soloist, she zones in on sounds that might usually be unheard; on 2024's 'Monophonic', for example, she magnifies seemingly incidental metal and breath sounds, drawing inspiration from noise music to stretch the limitations of her instrument.
