The Black Madonna aka Marea Stamper is a Chicago based DJ and producer, who became Smart Bar's resident in 2012, alongside Derrick Carter and Frankie Knuckles. Only a year later she was already responsible for booking artists for the club, changing Chicago's scene with her bold programming decisions. Now she has opened a vinyl imprint, to better showcase the club's talents. She tours and plays extensively, famed for her wide selection of disco, house and techno as well as technical proficiency. The Black Madonna is also known for being outspoken, using her position to talk how dance music needs to become more inclusive, with more female artists, “cranky queers and teenagers who are really tired of this shit”. To quote: “Dance music does not need more of the status quo.” She will play an extended set at Unsound at the closing party.
